Ryan's Story

From the classroom to corporate, and back to help you.

During her time at the University of Miami, Ryan experienced firsthand how challenging it can be to navigate competitive career paths and differentiate yourself as a student. She didn't always have clear guidance on which direction to take or how to position herself, and she watched others, often those with better connections, get the roles they desired with little effort.

She made it her business to understand the gap between talent and outcome. And she filled it, first for herself, then for the students she began informally advising along the way.

Since then, the challenge has only intensified. Today's job market is more crowded, entry-level opportunities are more competitive, and AI is reshaping the types of roles available and the skills required to stand out. In this environment, being qualified is no longer enough on its own.

While working closely with graduate students at the University of Miami, Ryan kept hearing the same thing: most of the career advice they'd received came from two well-meaning places, their parents, and their school's career center, and neither was current. Candidates were doing everything "right" by the advice they'd been given, and still not landing roles, because that advice hadn't caught up to how hiring actually works now: AI-driven applicant tracking, recruiting norms that shift every cycle, what actually gets a resume seen.

She founded Mettle to close that specific gap: guidance that's actually current, from someone still close enough to today's hiring landscape to know what's changed and what hasn't.
